Donna Gaines, Ph.D. is a Usui Reiki Master Healer/Teacher with a special commitment to recovery, body respect, and sacred activism. A Licensed Master Social Worker, sociologist, journalist and author, Donna’s interest in Reiki energy grew organically out of her own process of recovery from cross-addiction and early childhood trauma. A self-proclaimed “Buddheo-Christian,” Donna found in Reiki a gentle, non-invasive, yet powerful tool of self-healing.
An international expert on youth alienation and suicide, Dr. Gaines specializes in healing for self-empowerment and renewal—especially for women, “Indigo kids,” and people in recovery. Her healing practice integrates Reiki with spiritual counseling, healing prayer, 12 Step recovery, and social work “practice wisdom.” Reiki can be beneficial to people in a variety of settings—including drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, women’s shelters, hospitals, schools, churches and university health care systems.
Lecture and training workshops are tailored to the specific needs and interests of health professionals, caregivers and clergy seeking to integrate Reiki into existing healing practices– chiropractors, psychotherapists, massage therapists, yoga teachers, drug and alcohol counselors, nurses, and people working in ministry.
Church of the Blue Sky
“Spiritual paths are like the multitude of rivers and streams, all flowing into one great ocean,” says Gaines. “All paths can lead us lead to the Divine.” Drawing from a variety of sacred and secular belief systems Gaines has officiated at traditional, interfaith, “rock & roll” and “spiritual, not religious” ceremonies. Sacraments include rites of renewal (baptism), weddings, blessings, commitment services, adoptions and life passages (funerals).
“Who is to say what is sacred and what is profane?,” asks the cultural sociologist. “The most sacred relationship we can have is with the God of our understanding, the Divine presence, as we expereince it through our own process of discovery,” claims Dr. Gaines. “Spirit comes to us uncalled, unmediated, everywhere–in the ocean, through other people, on the street; in the Church of the Blue Sky.”
