Donna Gaines, Ph.D. is a Usui Reiki Master Healer/Teacher with a special commitment to recovery, body respect, and sacred activism. A Licensed Master Social Worker, sociologist, journalist and author, Donna’s interest in Reiki energy grew organically out of her own process of recovery from cross-addiction and early childhood trauma. A self-proclaimed “Buddheo-Christian,” Donna found in Reiki a gentle, non-invasive, yet powerful tool of self-healing.
An international expert on youth alienation and suicide, Dr. Gaines specializes in healing for self-empowerment and renewal—especially for veterans, women, “Indigo kids,” and people in recovery. Her healing practice integrates Reiki with spiritual counseling, healing prayer, 12 Step recovery, and social work “practice wisdom.”
Reiki can be beneficial to people in a variety of settings—including drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, VA hospitals, women’s shelters, hospitals, schools, churches and university health care systems.
Lecture and training workshops are tailored to the specific needs and interests of health professionals, caregivers and clergy seeking to integrate Reiki into existing healing practices– chiropractors, psychotherapists, massage therapists, yoga teachers, drug and alcohol counselors, nurses, and people working in ministry.
“Spiritual paths are like the multitude of rivers and streams, all flowing into one great ocean,” says Donna, who is a cultural sociologist. “Many paths can lead us lead to the Divine.” Drawing from a variety of sacred and secular belief systems Donna is a Registered Marriage Officiant in the City of New York, (# 1074001). She has performed traditional, interfaith, “rock & roll, and “spiritual, not religious” ceremonies, including those grounded in 12 Step recovery. Sacraments include rites of renewal (baptism), weddings, blessings, commitment services, adoptions, funerals, divorces, memorials, and life passages.
